1 dead after crash into grapefruit truck in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – One person is dead after the vehicle they were driving crashed into the trailer of a big rig that was blocking a lane of Highway 41 on Thursday evening, according to the CHP.

The crash took place at 9:45 p.m. at Highway 41 and South Avenue in Fresno County.

Officers say a man driving a big rig pulling a trailer loaded with grapefruit attempted to join Highway 41 from South Avenue, but while doing so the trailer blocked one of the northbound lanes of the highway.

CHP says a Nissan traveling on the northbound lane crashed into the trailer.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed at the scene. The big rig driver remained at the scene and was described as cooperating with the investigation.

The identity of the driver killed has not been officially released.
