17-year-old dead, 3 injured following crash on 169 Highway

Update: The Kansas City Police have identified the front right passenger who died as 17-year-old Kevin Adero.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead and three others have critical injuries following a crash Friday morning in Kansas City, Missouri.

The crash was reported just before 9 a.m. on southbound U.S. 169 Highway and Englewood Road.

Kansas City police said the driver of a silver Hyundai Elantra was speeding south on 169 Highway, passing cars on the shoulder and splitting the two lanes, passing on the center lane line.

The driver then lost control, went off the roadway striking a guardrail and overturning.

The front right passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to area hospitals with critical injuries.

Everyone inside the vehicle was not wearing seatbelts, according to police.

Both directions of 169 Highway were closed for three hours while crews worked the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
