1 dead, 2 injured in Salem early morning crash: officials

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man is dead and two others are injured after a crash involving two vehicles in Salem early Saturday morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m., Salem police officers and other emergency responders were called to the intersection of Kuebler Boulevard and Liberty Road South on the report of the crash involving two SUVs, authorities say.

On arrival, officers say they found the driver of one of the SUVs – identified by police as 33-year-old Joshua Guerra – dead at the scene. The driver of the other SUV – identified as 19-year-old Casen Collins – and his passenger were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Early investigation by the Salem Police Traffic Team found Guerra failed to stop at a red light while driving eastbound on Kuebler Boulevard. Guerra’s SUV then crashed into Collins’ SUV while crossing the intersection at Liberty Road, officials say.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information has been released at this time.
