1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at Brevard beachside park

Brevard County Sheriff Officers responded to a shooting in the area of Spessard Holland Park in Melbourne Beach on Saturday, the sheriff’s officer said.

Deputies found a man in critical condition on the east side of the 192 Causeway, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said. They found a second victim in a vehicle nearby who was pronounced dead.

There was a truck that fled the scene that deputies believe carried the shooters away, Ivey said. With the assistance of the Palm Bay Police Department and the Melbourne Police Department, deputies were able to stop the vehicle.

The occupants of the vehicle fled, but deputies arrested them and are evaluating their charges, Ivey said.

“From everything our investigation has shown us so far, this activity is all gang related,” Ivey said.

The sheriff’s office said that they believe this was a targeted attack and there is no danger to the general public.
