1 dead, 1 hospitalized after Battle Creek shooting

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting at a Battle Creek home early Tuesday.

It happened at a home on Spencer Street near Michigan Avenue. Battle Creek officers called there around 3 a.m. found the two victims, a release from the city said.

Police and EMTs tried to help the man, 47-year-old Clayton Holt of Battle Creek, but he died at the scene.

The woman, a 34-year-old Battle Creek woman, was rushed to the hospital, where she was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

Officers who set up a perimeter a few blocks away found and arrested a suspect, a 43-year-old from Battle Creek, the release said.

The release did not include the suspect’s name, but said that person was jailed on charges of murder and attempted murder.
