$1.2B up for grabs as lottery jackpots soar heading into the weekend

California lottery players can win big this weekend as jackpots for the Mega Millions and Powerball draw games continue to soar.

The combined total for both jackpots equals about 1.2 billion without accounting for taxes, the California Lottery Office announced Friday.

The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are an estimated $687 million and $521 million, respectively.

Powerball ticket worth over $230,000 sold in Southern California

The current Mega Millions jackpot has been growing for three months and is the game’s sixth-largest jackpot ever. Last August, the game saw its largest jackpot when a $1.6 billion ticket was sold in Florida.

California schools are also reaping the benefits from the growing jackpot.

An estimated $51.9 million was contributed to public schools in the Golden State during the latest jackpot sequence, according to the lottery office.

Ticket sales from draw games, like Powerball, Mega Millions, SuperLotto Plus, and Fantasy 5, and unclaimed lottery winnings are given to California public schools.
