'Dancing With the Stars' Week 8 Recap: Three's Company for Zendaya Coleman

It looks like the only way to get three 10s this season on "Dancing With the Stars" is to have three dancers. This week the remaining six celebs teamed up with an eliminated pro or a troupe member for a trio round, and the result was double the fun -- or double the trouble for some! But it did result in the first perfect score of the season. (Finally!)

Check out how the final six fared in the quarter finals, who nabbed that coveted perfect score, and which threesome Len Goodman chewed out after a dazzling trio dance:

Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy -- foxtrot/salsa trio with Gleb Savchenko

First up, it was time for Zendaya Coleman to put on her happy face for a perky dance with pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy. The Disney star danced a "light and breezy" foxtrot (Bruno Tonioli's description), but it was her trio dance with two hunky Russian pros that put her on top. After her saucy salsa trio with Gleb Savchenko and Val, Bruno told the teen star, "You didn't need the underwear models. All the attention was on you." As a bonus, the "Shake It Up" star shook things up by nabbing the first perfect score of the season.

Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd -- tango/jazz trio with Sharna Burgess

At the start of the show, Sean Lowe declared, "This week I can't have a mediocre dance or I'll go home." So it probably wasn't the best week to do a hot 'n' cold dance to Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold." Sean's wedding-themed tango with pro Peta Murgatroyd got a thumbs-down from the judges: Bruno told "The Bachelor" star he lost his footwork, while Carrie Ann Inaba slammed his inconsistency. Len said, "It wasn't a great dance. It was a little bit ugly." The result: An ugly trio of 7s this far into the competition. Ditto for Sean's trio jazz dance with Sharna Burgess, which Bruno described as "plenty of magic with a little tragic." Bruno also added, "I wish I didn't watch your feet." (Indeed, with last week's elimination of Andy Dick, Sean seems to be the snarky judge's new punching bag.) Score: Another set of 7s, prompting Sean to say, "At least we're consistent."

Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff -- Viennese waltz/paso doble trio with Cheryl Burke

Jacoby Jones is hungry for a 10 from Len. He even promised he'd kiss the head judge on the cheek if he coughed one up. But while the Super Bowl champ danced a gorgeous Viennese waltz with Karina Smirnoff, the duo fell one point shy. Carrie Ann called the dance "absolutely stunning," while Len said, 'I was looking, and you were cooking!"

And forget the ballroom -- it's a bullring! Jacoby got fired up for a hot paso doble trio, and it was over, under, around, and through as he leaped over both of his partners' heads, then later slid under their legs. While Carrie Ann gave him a slap on the wrist for tossing the girls around like rag dolls ("The man is supposed to take care of his women on the dance floor," she said), Len told the NFL star, "You became a contender tonight."

Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson -- foxtrot/jive trio with Lindsay Arnold

During this week's rehearsals, "General Hospital" star Ingo Rademacher complained to partner Kym Johnson that there's a physical limit of how many hours he can dance per day. But come showtime, all of his moaning and groaning culminated with one of his best dances to date. Carrie Ann said the dance showcased his best posture "by far," while Bruno joked that while he channeled Fred Astaire, sometimes it was "a little Fred Flintstone."Later, geek met chic in Ingo's jive trio, which had Len applauding its "full-on fun." But Bruno thought some of the moves were "like a kid on a sugar high," and he had some advice for Ingo if he makes it through to next week: "Clean up your kicks and flicks."

Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough -- Viennese waltz/paso doble trio with Tristan MacManus

Kellie Pickler and her partner, Derek Hough, had an interesting idea for this week's double dose of dances. In his blog for TV Guide, Derek promised, "I'm trying to do something new where I'm going to connect the two dances into one. We have the Viennese waltz and the paso doble, which are very different, so I'm going to make parallel universes … I'm going to try to make it clear that they're connected. I think just as long there's enough content and technique, [the judges] will get it."

For part one of the dance routine, the judges got it: The duo dazzled the judges with "oceans of motion" (per Len) and elegant movements. Carrie Ann loved how the "American Idol" alum finally connected to her dance. "Today I saw you went beyond the steps, and that is the key to unlocking you as a winner," she said.

But come trio time it was the dark side of Derek's dance. The dramatic paso doble trio with Tristan was dubbed "Masterpiece Theater" by Bruno, but Len went on a jaw-dropping tirade. "I expected more than flashing lights and crashing music … it was a hodgepodge of moves just to titillate!" he screamed amid a chorus of boos. "Where's the recognizable paso doble?" A furious Len slammed the threesome with a shocking 7 points, while Bruno and Carrie Ann gave them 10s.

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas -- Argentine tango/jive trio with Henry Byalikov

This week, Aly Raisman came out of her shell and transformed into a sultry seductress for her Argentine tango with Mark Ballas. Len likened the dance to "a guy dancing with his mistress," while Bruno told the wholesome Olympic gymnast, "I had no idea you were so good at being so bad."

For their jive trio with Henry Byalikov, Aly and Mark hit the road (Jack!), with the judges praising the Olympian's "new character." Len said, "You didn't dilly-dally, Aly. You, Mark, Henry, and Ray Charles -- what a great combination!"
