Zayn Malik Celebrates US Number One

It’s safe to say that Zayn Malik’s solo career has got off to a pretty successful start, with his debut single ‘Pillowtalk’ reaching number one in both the UK and US.

Not too shabby, eh?

The former One Direction star debuted at number one on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as the On Demand Songs and US Digital Songs charts, also reaching number one in his native UK.

Clearly utterly stunned by the overwhelming response to his solo career, Zayn couldn’t resist tweeting his excitement yesterday afternoon, writing: “What is gwaning :) !! I can’t explain the love and gratitude i feel today, thank you for making this happen”.

He then shared a snapshot of himself surrounded by celebratory balloons on Instagram, with the 23-year-old proving that he is so cool that he can make anything look trendy.

'Pillowtalk’ is one of just 25 songs to ever debut on the top spot of the Hot 100, and also became the fastest song by a debut artist to reach number one on Spotify’s global chart.

Zayn also achieved the highest one-week sales of 2016, with the record shifting 267,000 downloads in just seven days.

His debut album, 'Mind Of Mine’, is due to be released on March 25th - exactly one year after he sensationally quit One Direction midway through their On The Road Again Tour, however, he insists that the release date is purely coincidental.

He previously shared: “I don’t know, is that how it works out? It’s March 25, it wasn’t planned that way.

"It works that way. It just seems to coincide with the iTunes launch and everything. Maybe it’s a sign.”

Coincidence or not, we have a feeling that this is another release of his that will go straight to the top of the charts.
