Microsoft’s most recent hardware revision, the Xbox One S, isn’t capable of playing 4K games like the PlayStation 4 Pro or next year’s “Project Scorpio,” but it does support a feature that may be even more important to gamers: high-dynamic range. HDR, which allows for incredible contrast between light and dark colors and creates more realistic lighting effects, is supported on a number of current and future Xbox One games.
Compared to the PlayStation 4 family of consoles, all of which support it, HDR feels like a relatively minor feature on the Xbox One. Only a handful of Xbox One games currently include HDR support, with a few others still waiting for their promised HDR updates. New first party Xbox One games aren’t guaranteed to support HDR, as demonstrated by Halo Wars 2. It seems HDR wasn’t as important to Microsoft its initial announcement led us to believe.
Here’s a list of every current and upcoming Xbox One game confirmed to support HDR thus far. Be sure to check back as we update this page with more HDR-supported games as they’re announced.
