The Weeknd Breaks Record for Most Spotify Streams in 24 Hours by a Single Artist

Billboard

The Weeknd started early last week, with Abel Tesfaye putting up historic numbers with the Friday (Nov. 25) release of his much-anticipated Starboy LP. Spotify confirmed Tuesday (Nov. 29) that The Weeknd had broken the single-day record for streams on the service.

In a statement, Republic Records Chairman and Co-Founder Monte Lipman proclaimed that "Spotify's continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming," while Spotify Global Head of Creator Services Troy Carter concurred: "We're proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album."

Spotify has yet to release the figures for Tesfaye's new streaming benchmark, or to name the record's previous holder.
