Dog really is a man's best friend. Especially when it's a big, adorable fluffball who just wanders into your chaotic underground punk rock life out of the blue and gives you instant love. That's pretty much the entire plot to the touching "Sleep in the Heat" video from Canadian rockers Pup, which features their frequent collaborator Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard (aka Mike Wheeler).
Wolfhard -- a budding musician in real life -- plays a dirt-smeared younger version of Pup singer Stefan Babcock who befriends a loveable stray that starts following his band van everywhere. The clip, an homage to a number of animals Pup's members have lost over the years, find Wolfhard pawning his guitar to pay for the dog's vet bills.

According to Consequence of Sound, Babcock explained in a press release announcing the video that "Sleep" is a song about his chameleon, Norman, who died while the band was writing their new record, The Dream is Over. "[Director] Jeremy [Schaulin-Rioux] was the one who thought we should make a video for this song," he said. "He has this really weird one-eyed grumpy cat that he loves a lot, and I guess the song got him thinking about what it's going to be like when she's gone. Losing a friend is something so many of us have had to deal with, which is why I think this video is so powerful."

Wolfhard has made a habit of posting short clips of his covers of bands including Nirvana, but he's also served as a kind of muse to Pup, as this is his second lead role in one of their videos. One of his first acting gigs, in fact, was in the clip for their 2013 song "Guilt Trip," from the group' self-titled debut; "Sleep" is a sequel of sorts to that song, with Wolfhard playing the same character three years later.
