Jacob Banks did more than drop a music video for "Unholy War" -- he told a story.
The visual, written and directed by Banks, features a father who sends his young son away from home to protect him from danger. While the son runs away from home, a man on horseback rides toward the house for a stand-off with his father. The visual ends with the young boy kneeling in front of a tall white cross.
"This video depicts how the world gives people shit for things that are out of their control and the sacrifices people make to keep their magic alive," Banks tells Billboard.
Banks' vocals are stunning on track, delivering intense emotion that impeccably match the tone of the video. It's a the first of a two-part narrative inspired by real life that dives into the difficult themes of war and prejudice.
"Unholy War" is off of his upcoming EP, The Boy Who Cried Freedom, due out this April. Watch the incredible visual below.
