Alicia Keys planned to perform her new single, "Blended Family (What You Do for Love)," on the Tuesday night (Nov. 15) results episode of The Voice. But the mood of the country following the results of the 2016 presidential election inspired her to make a switch.
"Due to the current climate, there is only one song I can sing, and that's 'Holy War,'" she told the crowd.
Backed by her longtime vocalists Raii and Whitney Smith -- who auditioned for America's Got Talent earlier this year -- Keys began to sing "Blended Family" a capella, but then switched to "Holy War" as she took her place at the piano. Assisted by fellow coach Adam Levine on acoustic guitar, Keys made a powerful plea for peace as she sang the lyrics "we can heal each other." Her message resonated with the audience -- including fellow coach Miley Cyrus who sang along in her chair.
"Holy War" is included on her new album, Here.
