Was Rihanna Almost a Musical Theater Star?

When most people think of Andrew Lloyd Webber, they don’t exactly think pop music. The musical theater composer appeared on Good Morning Britain yesterday, and claimed that he discovered Rihanna. Webber said he was in Barbados with his colleague Nigel Wright when they saw Rihanna perform at Sandy Lane. They discussed taking her to the U.K., but ended up not following through.

Soon after, American producer Evan Rogers saw the singer perform with a girl group while he was vacationing in Barbados. When Rogers met Rihanna, he thought “she had such a presence!” He took Rihanna to all the major record labels in the United States, and, as we know, Jay-Z signed RiRi on the spot. Just thinking about a world without hits like “Umbrella,” “Diamonds,” and “Work,” makes us happy that Rogers was the one to bring Rihanna to the U.S.
