Waka Flocka Flame Parts Ways With Atlantic Records: 'I'm a Free Agent'

Billboard

After being entangled in a muddy relationship with Atlantic Records for over a year, Waka Flocka Flame revealed that he's severed ties with the label.

On Wednesday, the Atlanta rapper jumped on Twitter to share the news. "I'm officially a free agent!!" he tweeted. "No label! I wanna personally thank every fan that called my old label."

Since last April, Waka publicly trashed the label for holding back his project Flockaveli 2. Later that year, he slammed Atlantic for allegedly not caring about his well-being, especially after being shot.

"The first thing the label asked after I got shot is -- 'can you go to the studio,'" he wrote on Twitter last October. "From that day forward I knew my label didn't care I'm just another dollar sign," he added.

To make matters worse, Waka tweeted out the number to Atlantic Records and urged fans to call the label to demand his release. "I'm building back up now muf---az!!," he added.

Billboard reached out to an Atlantic Records rep for comment.
