Video Premiere: ‘Voice’/’Phantom’ Star Chris Mann Celebrates ‘The Music of the Night’

Since making the finale of The Voice Season 2, “popera” singer Chris Mann has kept busy, releasing his debut album Roads in 2012 and sophomore album Constellation this past May, and playing the titular “dream role” in the North American touring company of The Phantom of the Opera (which just launched a six-week run at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.). “I grew up listening to the double-disc CD set of the original Phantom cast, so to be playing the role for almost two years now is a dream come true,” Mann says.

Now Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks is excited to premiere the video for Mann’s own special version of the Phantom favorite “The Music of the Night.”

“I wanted my new album to represent all parts of who I am – my constellation. I co-wrote the album over the past 10 years, but it didn’t feel right not to include ‘The Music of the Night,’ the Phantom’s big aria from Act 1, on the album,” Mann tells Yahoo.

“The song was produced by my dear friend Walter Afanasiefft,” Mann continues, referring to the superstar producer and songwriter who has worked with Josh Groban, Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Andrea Bocelli, Idina Menzel, and Mann’s former Voice coach, Christina Aguilera. “We created a new arrangement of this classic song; I love how it feels super-intimate, yet builds to an enormous climax.”

Mann describes the video, which he filmed while on the road with Phantom, as “the story is a man wandering through the ornate Paris Opera House following the ghost of a lost love.” See it here first!
