Video Premiere: Louise Goffin Debuts 'Fifth of July'
Louise Goffin, the daughter of iconic writing duo Carole King and Gerry Goffin, is keeping quite busy in her role as a Grammy nominated producer/singer-songwriter this summer. Currently, she’s putting the finishing touches on a new album due out this fall. She’s already given fans a taste with the release of her single “Fifth of July,” which uses the idea of a post-holiday aftermath to contemplate deeper life and emotional issues.
Yahoo Music is pleased to debut the video for the song, which takes a documentary approach to sweeping up the confetti and cleaning up after the fireworks — literally and figuratively.
“This song was inspired by a photograph I saw when I was younger, with the caption ‘5th of July’ underneath it,” Goffin explains. “The beach was a mess, as if all the people had abandoned it after celebrating. As soon as I saw that photograph I said to myself, ‘there’s a song in this!’
“I think we all tend to focus so much on the big events when it’s what we do inbetween that makes up the fabric of our lives. I love to put stories into my songs – about what happens during those off the radar days, when everyone goes home. This is a song about one of those times.”
Goffin’s last work, 2015’s EP Appleonfire, was released after the passing of her father, featuring songwriting contribution from her dad and guest vocals from Jakob Dylan and Joseph Arthur. If you’d like to keep up with her schedule, check here.
