Video premiere: Duran Duran diva Anna Ross goes solo on ‘First Day’

British powerhouse vocalist Anna Ross has served as a background singer with some of the best pop ‘n’ soul artists in the business, including Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Kylie Minogue, Lisa Stansfield, and, most notably, Duran Duran, with whom she has worked since 2005. Now Ross is finally releasing her debut solo album, First Day, with a little help from her fab friends: The LP’s lead single, the title track, written by Ross and none other than Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon. Yahoo Music is excited to premiere the video for the track today.

“Simon is a creative force to be reckoned with,” says Ross. “He’s a brilliant and original singer, lyricist, songwriter, frontman. Duran Duran have notched up such an impressive catalogue of songs over the years, and continue to with each new album they do — including their current one, Paper Gods. I love working with him; he’s really good fun on tour, as well. He continues to inspire me on lots of levels.”

Le Bon isn’t the only Duran Duran member to support Ross’s solo project. Ross says Duran drummer Roger Taylor was the first person to listen to her demos, “and he gave me such positive feedback that it gave me the confidence to approach Simon to ask if he wanted to co-write.” Keyboardist Nick Rhodes is also currently planning to direct a future video from the album. And bassist John Taylor has also gotten on board, doing a “First Day” remix — along with Charles Scott, a music arranger at J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot studio — which can be heard below.

Says John Taylor in a statement: “When I heard Anna’s song ‘First Day,’ I begged her to let me have a chance at doing a remix. It’s a great song, and I’m so happy that she is finally putting out her own material. She’s an extraordinary singer, and the song has a strong message. … I played Charles Anna’s song and we right away had ideas about where we wanted our version to go. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.”
