Van Morrison Discusses ‘Duets’ in Exclusive Interview Clip

Van Morrison is well-known for his extensive catalog of beloved classics; however, for his latest project — the upcoming Duets: Reworking the Catalogue, out March 24 — Morrison decided to take a different tack with his approach.

Deliberately steering away from his more well-known compositions, Morrison personally some of the artists he most respects to choose and perform his lesser-heralded songs with him. In this exclusive interview, Morrison discusses some of the challenges of Duets, including the logistics of selecting guests for the project, as well as the task of deciding which songs to re-invent.

It’s a rare glimpse at the workings behind such a monumental release as Duets, which features a staggering guest list including Bobby Womack, Steve Winwood, Mark Knopfler, Taj Mahal, Mavis Staples, Michael Bublé, Natalie Cole, George Benson, Gregory Porter, Clare Teal, P.J. Proby, Joss Stone, Georgie Fame, Mick Hucknall, Chris Farlowe, and Morrison’s own daughter Shana.

Duets: Reworking the Catalogue was recorded in Morrison’s hometown of Belfast and London over the last year. For more information and preorder options, check here.
