Universal Music Group Nashville chairman and CEO Mike Dungan will receive the Presidential Award for Outstanding Executive Achievement at the Music Biz 2017 awards breakfast, set for May 17 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in Nashville.
The Music Business Association (Music Biz) will present the award to recognize Dungan's leadership over the course of his label career, which began in 1979 at RCA, has included stops at Arista and Capitol, and now finds him running five UMG Nashville family labels (Capitol Records Nashville, EMI Records Nashville, MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville and Toby Keith's Show Dog-Universal). The breakfast is being sponsored by the CMA.
Billboard named Dungan executive of the year in the latest edition of the Nashville Power Players list.
"Mike's journey in the music business spans more than four decades," said James Donio, president of Music Biz. "He has grown to be such an integral industry player, building Capitol Nashville into a major force before developing UMG Nashville into the dominant Country powerhouse it is today. Mike unquestionably represents the exceptional vision, leadership and commitment that perfectly exemplifies our Presidential Award recipients."
Previous honorees of the Presidential Award include Scott Borchetta, Clive Davis, Sylvia Rhone, Dick Clark and Ahmet Ertegun.
The Music Biz 2017 conference will take place in Nashville on May 15-18. The organization says that since moving to Music City from Los Angeles two years ago, annual attendance at the annual confab has grown by 50 percent.
