Two Door Cinema Club Levels Up in New 'Bad Decisions' Video: Exclusive Premiere

In the video for Two Door Cinema Club's latest single from their upcoming third album Gameshow, it's clear that "Bad Decisions" will take you to a trippy place. For the Irish 3-piece, it continues their foray into the visually strange and surreal.

The glammed-out track fits right into the band's wheelhouse of catchy dance-pop with heart and soul, but the video adds a completely new dimension, quite literally. The lyrical theme of living by trial-and-error is complemented with a motif of video game levels. Finding redemption becomes a perilous scenario for the band with each wrong move leading to increasingly outlandish punishments, but it's one that ultimately makes for an impressive, optical feast of a journey.

Directed by Thunderlips, the same pair behind Gameshow's advertisement-eschewing debut single "Are We Ready (Wreck)," the video follows its preceding single's unconventional style while breaking new artistic ground for the band.

"When we first spoke to Alex [Trimble, lead singer], on the set of 'Are We Ready', it was clear that he hated social media as much as we did," the directing partners say. "So we knew we needed to come up with a suitably epic metaphor to illustrate this brilliant song."

The New Zealand duo, comprised of Sean Wallace and Jordan Dodson, drew initial inspiration from Dante's "Inferno" and adapted it to a video game as a "fun way to make this concept relevant and also give us a platform for the animators to develop and embellish with the band battling each other to escape hell and earn redemption."

The video not only works for the song thematically, but also aesthetically. Its retro animation style matches the upbeat tempo and vibrant, vintage synths that make the song especially unique. For the band, choosing to go abstract may have been one of their best decisions yet.

Two Door's new album Gameshow is set for release on Oct. 14th on Glassnote Records and is available for preorder here. The band also begins their headlining North American tour on Sept. 30 in Dallas, TX. Tickets and tour dates can be found on their website.
