SERIES AND EPISODE | How I Met Your Mother, “Vesuvius”
TITLE | “If You See Her, Say Hello”
ARTIST | Bob Dylan
ALBUM | Blood On the Tracks (1975)
WHY IT ROCKED | Ted and the mother reminisce about the day of Barney and Robin’s wedding, even mentioning that Robin’s mother showed up. There are some tears (ours included), an awkward pause, and a change of subject as this heartbreaking song brings this emotional episode to an end.
SERIES AND EPISODE | Modern Family, “Spring-A-Ding-Fling”
TITLE | “Come Sail Away”
ARTIST | Styx
ALBUM | The Grand Illusion (1977)
WHY IT ROCKED | Phil hilariously parodies this Styx classic, singing “I’m Selling Away,” at the realtor’s banquet, throwing in lines like, “I’m a new divorcee/Now I need a house that’s cat friendly,” all while decked out in a couple different interesting outfits. His gold blazer caught our eye, but the purple dress, floral purse and black wig – with the plush cat to top it off – really stole the show.
SERIES AND EPISODE | Nashville, “Guilty Street”
TITLE | “Hennessee”
ARTIST | Nashville Cast (Feat. Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio, and Chaley Rose)
ALBUM | Hennessee- Single (2014)
WHY IT ROCKED | The most awkward, yet talented, trio consisting of Scarlett’s ex-best friend, ex-boyfriend, and ex-ex-boyfriend (and at this point we don’t know which one’s which) played their first gig as a band with this crowd-pleasing song.
SERIES AND EPISODE | Reign, “The Consummation”
TITLE | “Come To Me”
ARTIST | Goo Goo Dolls
ALBUM | Magnetic (2013)
WHY IT ROCKED | Well Mary has finally made her choice, and her lucky suitor is – drumroll please — Francis! (Better luck next time, Bash.) The queen and her new king run into the reception and have their first dance to this refreshing Goo Goo Dolls love song. “Come To Me” plays as Mary and Francis twirl around the circle of their guests with smiles in check.
SERIES AND EPISODE | The Walking Dead, “Alone”
TITLE | “Blackbird Song”
ARTIST | Lee DeWyze
ALBUM | Blackbird Song- Single (2014)
WHY IT ROCKED | An eerie flashback of pre-prison Bob, armed with a machete, shows the tortured soul wandering alone – until Glenn and Daryl find him – while the American Idol ninth season winner’s haunting “Blackbird Song” plays on.
SERIES AND EPISODE | Teen Wolf, “De-Void”
TITLE | “Like Real People Do”
ARTIST | Hozier
ALBUM | Take Me to Church EP (2013)
WHY IT ROCKED | Even in the midst of chaos, Scott manages to squeeze in a little romance. After his initial offer to sleep on the chair is shot down by Kira, the courteous werewolf joins her on the bed while Hozier sings, “We should just kiss like real people do.” Done and done.
SERIES AND EPISODE | Girls, “Role-Play”
TITLE | “99 Red Balloons”
ARTIST | Nena
ALBUM | Nena (1983)
WHY IT ROCKED | When “99 Red Balloons” comes on you can’t help but jump up and down – and neither can Hannah. As Nena’s song plays in the background, Hannah throws back some shots (and then more and more shots) with her coworkers in the bar, kisses Kevin, calls Adam and ends the night…well, vomiting.
SERIES AND EPISODE | Glee, “City Of Angels”
TITLE | “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”
ARTIST | Glee Cast
ALBUM | “City of Angels- EP” (2014)
WHY IT ROCKED | New Directions delivered this U2 classic as their last hurrah and as a tribute to Finn Hudson. As if the powerful performance by Sam, Blaine, Tina and Artie wasn’t enough to get the tears flowing, clips of Finn at his finest accompanied the fallen quarterback’s favorite song – and it was all topped off with Sam proudly holding up those red drumsticks. Cue the waterworks.
