A Tribe Called Quest Animate Phife for Touching 'We The People' Video: Watch

Billboard

A Tribe Called Quest pay homage to late member Phife Dawg in a poignant video for their hard-hitting track "We The People." The song from the pioneering hip-hop group's final album, We Got it From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service, opens with Q-Tip rapping into a forest of mics in a basement lab as everyone topside appear to turn into zombies with green eyes. With lyrics that tackle racism, homophobia and anti-Muslim sentiments, the protest-focused video appears to be a call-to-arms to rise up against the voices of hatred and bigotry, a timely concept in the wake of the bitterly contested presidential election.

Some renegades throw up a poster of Phife on a wall, which soon animates as the rapper -- who died in March of complications from diabetes --  appears to come to life to spit in the clip. In Tribe's world, all that talk of who must go, though, ends with a heart-lifting scene of streets flooded with thousands holding "We the People" signs."
