Longtime No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal got a bit nostalgic on Tuesday (March 14) in a video commemorating his 30th anniversary in the group. In an Instagram post, Kanal -- currently a member of the supergroup Dreamcar with No Doubt pals Tom Dumont and Adrian Young and AFI singer Davey Havok -- recalled the day when, as a junior at Anaheim High School, his friend Chris Webb invited him to check out his band's first club show.
"He wanted me to check it out and see if I wanted to play bass in this band," Kanal recalls of the invitation from the group's original drummer. "So, I went to see No Doubt play on March 14, 1987 at the show at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach, California." Before they became one of the biggest acts of the '90s, No Doubt were the first of nine bands on the bill that day. "A week later I tried out and I joined the band and that was obviously a completely incredible thing for me and a life changing moment."
