While a TMZ video from Tim McGraw's concert in Atlanta over the weekend purported to show the country star slapping a female fan in the crowd, his rep told Billboard on Thursday that he was just swatting away the forward fan's hand to keep the show moving.
In the video, shot from the crowd Sunday at Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood, McGraw is making his way down a catwalk, slapping fans' hands while performing his 2013 single "Truck Yeah." More than 40 seconds in, you can see a female fan make contact with McGraw's leg, and he reaches out at her in response. When reached by Billboard, McGraw's team explained the interaction:
"At the end of the night during the encore, Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn't let go as he was moving through the crowd. He instinctively swatted to try and keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing), and so he could get to more fans who were trying to slap hands with him before the end of the show. He didn't know who had grabbed him and was trying to keep his pants from being torn."
TMZ later posted a second video, which confirms the damage the fan did to McGraw's jeans and appears to show the singer saying something to the woman. The first video also shows a security guard swiftly ejecting the woman from the concert after the interaction. Watch the latest video below and decide for yourself:
