Thurston Moore Recorded a Techno Album
During his recent appearance on Pitchfork’s “Over/Under,” Thurston Moore gave his opinion on techno, deadpanning, “It’s a braindead exercise of plastic sound,” before saying, “I’m sorry, I actually really like a lot of techno, I think it really needs to be discussed in a more academic way than just as music for ding-dongs who like to snort coke and try to get laid, but they’re not going to so they’re just stuck with their shitty techno records... Have you heard my techno record?”
As it turns out, he wasn’t entirely joking with his final comment. Moore recently sat down with LCD Soundsystem’s Tyler Pope for the Talkhouse podcast, during which the Sonic Youth co-founder revealed that he actually has recorded an entire techno album, which has yet to be released. “It’s not gonna be under my name. I don’t want anyone to come to it with any preconceived idea,” Moore said. “Like: ‘This insufferable idiot just made a techno record?’ Forget about it.”
