'The Voice' Top 5 Results: The Passage of India

Tuesday was a big results night for Reality Rocks readers. First, we found out that American Idol Season 14’s top two finalists are Nick Fradiani and Clark Beckham. Yawn. But, much more excitingly, we learned which four contestants will be moving on to next week’s Season 8 Voice finale, after one last battle-of-the-divas, Instant Save sing-off between Team Xtina’s India Carney and Team Pharrell’s Koryn Hawthorne.

Koryn prevailed, and rightfully so. While I wouldn’t say her Instant Save performance of Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy” was her best (she definitely struggled with her lower register during the opening verse), she did come out fighting. Meanwhile, India already seemed defeated, almost in tears, when Carson Daly told her she was in the bottom two for her third time this season. And she didn’t quite put on her game face when she performed a good-but-not-great cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “Darkside.”

Plus, Koryn deserved the Save for her overall body of Season 8 work. The green teen contestant grew by leaps and bounds throughout the season — maybe more so than any Voice contestant ever, according to Adam Levine. Conversely, the music-schooled, perfectly polished India plateaued early on. America recognized Koryn’s progress, and America rewarded it. A classic reality-TV story arc, if ever there was one.

But you know what all this means? With India gone, coach Christina Aguilera, now in her fifth overall Voice season, once again will not and cannot win. This year, her team isn’t represented in the finale at all. Meanwhile, Pharrell Williams has two finalists, Koryn and (likely winner) Sawyer Fredericks. He must be feeling mighty “Happy” right about now.

So for those of you keeping track (and, if you watch both Idol and The Voice, that sure can be tough), that means Team Pharrell’s Sawyer Fredericks and Koryn Hawthorne, Team Blake’s Meghan Linsey, and Team Adam’s dark horse Joshua Davis will face off in next week’s finale. It still seems like this is either Sawyer or Meghan’s competition to lose, but you never know with this show. We’ll just have to watch and find out. See you next week.
