The Joy Formidable Gets Crowd ‘Whirring’ With Stripped-Down Set

Welsh-originated and London-based dreampop trio the Joy Formidable (consisting of Ritzy Bryan on vocals and guitar, Rhydian Dafydd on bass, and Matt Thomas on drums) were one of the lucky acts at New Orleans’s Voodoo Music + Art Experience who didn’t experience inclement weather. In fact, their Friday set was marked by sunshine and an equally sunny crowd eager for some rocking sounds.

Which the band had no problem delivering. They also brought the goods in an additional stripped-down set shot in the Toyota Tent in conjunction with SPIN, as evidenced by this performance of the single “Whirring” from their 2011 debut The Big Roar.

The Voodoo Music + Arts Experience took place over Halloween weekend in New Orleans’ City Park.
