#TBT: Mumford & Sons at Yahoo Music in 2009

On May 8 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, Yahoo Live will live stream Mumford & Sons’ iHeartRadio record release concert from the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City. Tune in HERE to watch!

Mumford & Sons are household names now: Grammy-winners, festival headliners, and pioneers of a modern folk sound so distinctive that other artists, from the Lumineers to Of Monsters & Men to even American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, have actually been described as “Mumfordian.”

But back in 2009, Mumford & Sons were just a band of Brits with a dream. It was that year that they visited Yahoo Music’s offices, stringed instruments in tow, to meet our staffers, promote their debut album Sigh No More, and grace us with a lilting, lovely, totally off-the-cuff performance of “Timshel.” Little did we know back then that they’d one day be playing the main stages at Glastonbury and Bonnaroo.

As Mumford & Sons move away from their signature folk-rock sound on their brand-new album, Wilder Mind, we’re reflecting on their acoustic days with this little #TBT. And be sure to check out their sonic evolution when Yahoo Live streams the band’s iHeartRadio Record Release Party this Friday at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET from the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City.
