SXSW: Watch Miley Cyrus Perform With Mike Will Made It

SXSW just got hit with a surprise wrecking ball: Miley Cyrus. The pop singer made an impromptu appearance onstage at Fader Fort in Austin, Texas, with some special guests.

Miley took the mic in the latter stages of Mike Will Made It’s set. She then launched into the song she made with her producer-pal, “23,” before leaping into her hit “We Can’t Stop.” The one-time Hannah Montana star also teamed with guest Future and with Rae Sremmurd on “Throw Sum Mo,” lifted from the hip-hop act’s album SremmLife. Other guests included Riff Raff and Two-9.

The Fader Fort has long been a place for surprise appearances and collaborations. In the last two years alone, the venue has hosted team-ups between Usher and the Afghan Whigs in 2013 and a reunion of Damon Albarn with Gorillaz cohorts De La Soul, Dan the Automator, and Del the Funky Homosapien in 2014.

Prior to Mike Will’s set, the backstage VIP lounge flooded with artists and industry execs teeming over to catch Cyrus’s cameo, including A-Trak, G-Eazy, Dej Loaf, ASTR, and Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff, who played the last set prior. And in true Fader Fort form, the trees were flowing all night. “It smells good up here,” Cyrus said at one point
