Superchunk to Reissue Self-Titled Debut Album

By Braudie Blais-Billie.

Seminal indie rockers Superchunk have announced a remastered vinyl reissue for their self-titled debut album. It’s out August 25 via Merge, and it comes packaged with updated artwork, liner notes by the band, and an 11” x 17” replica of a 1989 Chunk concert flyer. It also comes with a download of their record release show at CBGB, Clambakes Vol 9: Other Music From Unshowered Grumblers — Live in NYC 1990. Vinyl is being pressed limited-edition orange vinyl, and some orders come with a foldout poster of the woodcut found on the LP’s cover art. That’s what the packaging looks like below.

“I was living in NYC finishing school when we made this record, so rehearsals and recording were all rushed,” frontman Mac McCaughan said in a statement. “I’m surprised we knew this many songs well enough to record them. Twenty-seven years later, we still play at least three or four of these songs live, which says something good about a few of the songs, anyway!”
