Steve Mackay, Saxophonist for the Stooges, Dies at 66

Steve Mackay, a saxophonist whose best known for playing on The Stooges’ second album, Fun House, in 1970, has died. He was 66.
Stooges frontman Iggy Pop posted the following Facebook message on Sunday, Oct. 11:
“Steve was a classic ‘60s American guy, full of generosity and love for anyone he met. Every time he put his sax to his lips and honked, he lightened my road and brightened the whole world. He was a credit to his group and his generation. To know him was to love him.”
In early September, Mackay was in critical condition after being taken to a hospital in Daly City, Calif., for sepsis, a complication of an infection that can cause multiple organs to fail, according to KQED.
Mackay left The Stooges near the end of 1970 and later rejoined the group for its comeback albums Ready to Die (2007) and The Weirdness (2013). He also collaborated with such bands as the Violent Femmes, Snakefinger and Commander Cody.
