With hit motorcycle gang drama Sons of Anarchy rolling through its sixth season, Columbia Records is set to release a brand new compilation of music from the show, Songs of Anarchy, Volume 3, out December 3rd. You can pre-order the collection now, and if you do so on iTunes you'll get a new song each week until the album's release.
The compilation features a handful of cuts from Sons Of Anarchy house band the Forest Rangers, who team up with artists including Noah Gundersen, Billy Valentine and Jennifer O'Connor for covers of "As Tears Go By," "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay," and "Running Blues." Now you can take an exclusive first listen to one of the record's originals, "Lullaby for a Soldier (Arms of the Angels)," which was written by Dillon O'Brian and sung by Sons of Anarchy star Maggie Siff.
"I didn't know what to expect when Maggie came over to the studio," said Bob Thiele, music supervisor and composer for Sons of Anarchy. "She said rather humbly that she 'could sing.' As you can hear for yourself, Maggie has a beautiful, captivating voice. For the actual track, I felt that any instrumental accompaniment should be minimal. Even a small acoustic guitar seemed to distract from emotional tone of her performance. I wanted nothing to interfere with the power of her vocal."
Kurt Sutter, who created Sons of Anarchy, was equally pleased with the results. "We wanted a song to convey the pain of a mother losing a son," Sutter told Rolling Stone. "Bob and Dylan created a beautiful lullaby, sung by the beautiful Maggie Siff."
