Song Premiere: Sugar Fly Debuts ‘Heartbreak City’

Los Angeles based rock/soul group Sugar Fly will be unleashing its debut EP on Feb. 26, introducing its unique mix or contemporary soul (recalling bands like Alabama Shakes) with the heaviness of such rockers as Black Sabbath.

Yahoo Music is excited to premiere the EP’s title track, “Heartbreak City,” for fans to get a taste of their sound.

Vocalist Tia Simone says this of the track: “Everyone is familiar with the move out to L.A. to be a star, to be famous. This song is an homage to that. But the moral of this story is fail or succeed, no one really has time to care about your journey because everyone is chasing after the same thing.”

“Heartbreak City was the first song we wrote together as Sugar Fly,” notes bassist Collyn McCoy. “[Drummer] Noah [Lifschey] and I had the idea to combine vintage soul and modern rock, so we’d get together in his studio to toss around ideas. Right out of the gate this song had elements of both combined in a cool, original way.”

“The very first time we met with Tia she already had an amazing melody and hook and lyrical idea down, and we all worked together to intertwine them and finish it off – that all happened in one night,” adds Lifschey.
