Song Premiere: K-Drama Compares Himself to ‘Hoop Dreams’ Star ‘Arthur Agee’ on New Track

Cincinnati hip hop artist K-Drama was too determined to fail and compares his plight in music to the pursuits of Hoop Dreams star Arthur Agee.

K-Drama raps that he feels like Agee on his new single, “Arthur Agee,” that premieres on Yahoo Music.

In the 1994 documentary that won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, Agee overcame hardships to help Chicago’s John Marshall High School win the 1991 Public League Championship and rank third in the State Championship.

K-Drama raps, “I almost gave up because all the heartache / But you miss all the shots you don’t take / I feel like Arthur Agee / They slept on me.”

K-Drama explains why he identifies with Agee’s story. “He was the underdog that few thought was capable of success, yet he unexpectedly led his high school basketball team to the state championships,” K-Drama says in a statement. “I’ve been faced with similar situations throughout my life and desired to encourage the listener to pursue their dreams in spite of naysayers.”

“Arthur Agee” appears on K-Drama’s eighth album, The 8th, slated to be released on February 19.
