Song Premiere: Jason Castro Joins Siblings for Family Band Castro’s ‘Diamond Dreams’

American Idol fans will surely recognize Jason Castro, even without his famous dreadlocks – he’s the Season 7 top four finalist responsible for two of the series’ finest moments, “Hallelujah” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Idol diehards will also remember Jason’s brother, Michael, who auditioned for the show and made it to Hollywood in Season 8. And now the brothers Castro have decided good things come in threes, and they’ve teamed with their younger sister Jackie in the eponymous family folk band Castro – whose new single, “Diamond Dreams,” is premiering on Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks today.

“We are so thrilled that the world is getting to hear us for the very first time. ‘Diamond Dreams’ captures our desire to dream big while also enjoying the little things. It was a joy to collaborate together on this song and to record it with the legendary Charlie Peacock,” Jackie tells Yahoo Music – referring to the Nashville producer who has worked with the Civil Wars, Kris Allen, Ben Rector, and Lone Below, and who produced Castro’s forthcoming Diamond Dreams EP. “We’re ready to begin this journey together as both a family and a band.”

Jason, who’s now a married father of two, explains he decided to form the Castro band after growing weary of the loneliness of touring and recording as a solo act. “I’m coming from a really different place this go-‘round,” he says. “Doing this has helped me get back to the root of what I love about music – and that’s the music, which is just better together.”

While neither Jason nor Michael had sung before college, Jackie started performing at age 5, and she says, “We come from a super-musical family. There was always a guitar being played, always a chance to sing, and I always loved it.” It’s no wonder, then, that the Castros’ harmonies blend so naturally in this rousing, upbeat track.

The Diamond Dreams EP comes out Sept. 2 via Fervent Records.
