SNL Mocks the Outrage Over Beyoncé's 'Formation': 'Maybe This Song Isn't for Us!'

There are so many appropriate ways to respond to new Beyoncé music – like with hugs, with thanks, with joyful tears. But getting angry about her black-positive message isn't one of them.

Standing shrieking atop the pile of think pieces about Beyoncé's "Formation" single and music video (and all of the black-positive imagery and messages therein) came Saturday Night Live's "The Day Beyoncé Turned Black."

Poking fun at some conservative pundits who slammed the video and the singer's Super Bowl performance last weekend, the skit was set up as a nightmare trailer about a nightmare movie set in a nightmare world, in which nothing made sense anymore for the white people living in it.



With dawning horror, they listened to lines like "I got hot sauce in my bag/Swag," and realized, "Maybe this song isn't for us."
