Shawn Mendes was forced to leave fans in the Bay Area in "Stitches" on Thursday (Dec. 1). The 18-year-old singer had to cancel his appearance at San Jose's Jingle Ball after falling ill.
"I planned to fly to San Jose today, but am sick and doctors have told me I am unable to travel or perform," Mendes wrote in a memo to fans on Twitter. "I am gutted and so sorry, and I will make it up to you."
Wild 94.9 -- the iHeartRadio station hosting the Dec. 1 Jingle Ball -- even shared a video message from a scratchy-voiced Mendes, providing proof that he is in no shape to sing to a sold-out arena.
Sending lots of love to @ShawnMendes - hope he feels better! We're going to miss him at #Wild949JingleBall tonight ----https://t.co/mAbp83hWuH pic.twitter.com/0GMWWRKMfx

Fortunately for the 17,000 people who will be attending Thursday's show, there are still some pretty huge names on the bill to fill the Mendes void. The Chainsmokers, Charlie Puth, Diplo, Alessia Cara, Tove Lo, Lukas Graham, Daya and (special guest) Niall Horan will be taking the stage, and it sounds like Mendes plans to make it out to the Bay Area once he's well again.
