Selena Gomez Shrugs Off Kanye West's Controversial Taylor Swift Lyric: 'She's Killing It and She Kind of Always Has Been'

What does Selena Gomez think of Kanye West's controversial new lyric about her friend Taylor Swift, in which he calls her a "bitch"?

It sounds like she doesn't really think about West at all.

"She's killing it and she kind of always has been," Gomez, 23, said Friday on SiriusXM's "The Morning Mash Up," when asked about the controversy.

"Everybody has their own opinion," Gomez said. "At the end of the day, you can just do what you do."

West, 38, whose seventh studio album debuted Sunday, revealed the lyric Thursday in his new song "Famous," in which he raps, "For all my Southside n----s who will know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why, I made that bitch famous / God damn / I made that bitch famous."

Swift's brother, Austin, had a slightly more public reaction than Gomez, posting an Instagram video last week showing him throwing away a pair of Yeezy 350 Boots as part of his "spring cleaning."

West has defended the reference as not a "diss," and said that he got approval for the line from both Swift and his wife, Kim Kardashian West.

"I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings," West tweeted Friday.

Not so, a Swift rep told PEOPLE: "Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account."

"She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message," the rep said, "Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that bitch famous.' "

Of course this isn't the first time Swift, 26, and West have become embroiled.

The hip-hop star infamously interrupted Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, triggering a national backlash (including a comment from President Barack Obama). However, the pair made up after the incident and were on friendly terms before West's new song.
