See It First! ‘Voice’ Star Kat Robichaud Returns With ‘Doctor Who’-Inspired Video

Kat Robichaud made her mark on The Voice Season 5 with her outlandish theatricality, geek-girl charm, and powerful pipes. But it turns out there’s another TV show that made just as indelible an impression on her: Doctor Who. Kat’s former band, the Design, even used to tour in a van lovingly nicknamed the Tardis. So, with BBC America running a two-day Doctor Who marathon this week (leading up to its famous Christmas Day holiday special), the time seems right for Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks to premiere Kat’s new Doctor Who-inspired music video, for “Somebody Call the Doctor.”

"I fell in love with Doctor Who a few years ago,” Kat tells Yahoo. I would watch it on my phone in the middle of the night while my band was driving from city to city. I’m drawn to the show because it’s the story of a man — or alien, if you will — who, despite having lost everything, continues to fight and he never gives up. I think a lot of us can relate. It was on those long van rides that I got the melody in my head for ‘Somebody Call the Doctor’ and I shaped it into a song. I tend to get obsessed with characters and it’s so much fun to write about them.

"I made the video because I thought it would be fun to get a bunch of people to dress up like their favorite Doctors and run around San Francisco. Not only did my actors have a fantastic time, everyone that saw us had these big smiles on their faces. The actor that played the Fourth Doctor is also a puppeteer, and he brought this amazing Silence puppet with him that everyone went crazy over. Doctor Who makes people happy. And Doctor Who fans are awesome people. And forcing Cybermen to sing my song made me giggle.”
