See It First: The Pharcyde Asks for Forgiveness in 'Sins' Video
Imani and Brown from the legendary West Coast rap group The Pharcyde have a long history of making quality music and they keep up the tradition with their latest effort, a thought-provoking music video for “Sins,” a song from producer’s SBBX album The After Hours LP.
The music video can be viewed exclusively on Yahoo Music.
The song makes socio-political statements about society and the government, challenging everything from Obamacare, employment rates, and police brutality. The message is conveyed in two storylines in the music video.
During Brown’s verse a woman copes with morning sickness and the emotional toll of her newfound pregnancy as Brown’s rap ponders planes go missing, the viral Ice Bucket Challenge, and why mass media messages don’t always add up. The video mirrors Imani’s verse about a young man who loses hope when his best efforts to live a better life aren’t enough to help him find a job. In one scene, the subject is embarrassed when he applies for a job and the clerks laugh at his resume.
The video sends a clear message about the struggles that come with pressures of life, hence the chorus, “I hope you can forgive me for my sins.”
The Pharcyde released their gold certified, critically-acclaimed debut, Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde, in 1992. It included their song “Passing Me By.”
