See It First: DJ AM’s Friends Remember Him in Exclusive Documentary Clip

As I Am: The Life and Time$ of DJ AM is a new and highly regarded documentary from award-winning director Kevin Kerslake celebrating the life of DJ pioneer Adam Michael Goldstein, A.K.A. DJ AM.

Yahoo Music is pleased to premiere an excerpt from the film, which offers insight into AM’s personal archives, iconic mixes, never-before-seen footage, photos, and more. The film also includes interviews with close friends and colleagues Mark Ronson, Steve Aoki, A-Trak, Mix Master Mike, Diplo, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jon Favreau and Dr. Drew, among many others.

Additionally, it also explores AM’s triumph over an early struggle with substance abuse, which resulted in 11 years of model sobriety and a life devoted to helping others in recovery. After surviving a deadly plane crash with Blink 182’s Travis Barker, AM suffered from survivor’s guilt and PTSD, which in part led to a fatal relapse in 2009.

The project was self-financed and independently produced, roceeds from any online, TV or theatrical distribution of the film will benefit MusiCares®, the chosen charity for the DJ AM Memorial Fund, which provides members of the music community access to addiction recovery treatment regardless of their financial situation.
