See It First: Crown and the M.O.B. ‘Roam’ Venice Beach With a Good Message

It’s good timing for a new feel-good hip-hop anthem. And Brooklyn-bred MC Crown and the M.O.B. (Message of the Blues) deliver just that with their new song and video, “Roam,” that premieres exclusively on Yahoo Music.

Filled with inspiring lyrics like, “grab somebody and enjoy life,” “the road gets tough, keep going,” and “never stress the smallest,” “Roam” leaves listeners in a good mood. The infectiousness is captured in the video that features the band pushing a piano throughout Venice Beach while caroling their message.

Just because the song is positive, don’t assume that it’s because Crown doesn’t know hard times. “I was thinking about my early childhood, stepping over crack vials, living across the hallway from a crack house, seeing violence and police corruption,’” he says about his motivation for writing the song.  “But regardless of what’s in your past, don’t be afraid to expect what’s a head of you.”

Crown has opened for the likes of Fabolous, Fat Joe, KRS One, Lil Kim, and Trey Songz, and the members of the M.O.B. have played with everyone from Dr. Dre to Justin Timberlake. They will release their debut album All Rise this spring on Caroline/Capitol.
