Johnny Depp Starts Publishing Imprint
Johnny Depp is launching a new publishing imprint under HarperCollins that plans to release The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan, written by best-selling author Douglas Brinkley, The Associated Press reports.
"We will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples' time, of peoples' concern, publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet," Depp said of the imprint, which will share a name with his production company, Infinitum Nihil (which means "nothing is forever"). "For this dream realized, we would like to salute HarperCollins for their faith in us and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship together."
HarperCollins said that Depp will look for "authentic, outspoken and visionary ideas and voices."
For his part, Brinkley – who profiled Dylan in 2009 for Rolling Stone – said he thinks the Dylan book is "the ideal way" to kick off the new publishing imprint. The book, which looks to tell the complete tale of Dylan's life and career based in part on interviews with Brinkley, is scheduled to hit shelves in 2015.
"Bob has been very warm and forthcoming with us," Brinkley said. "His music has inspired us both deeply since we were teenagers."
This is not the first time Depp and Brinkley have worked together: Earlier this summer, the pair announced they were co-editing Woody Guthrie's lost novel, House of Earth, which tells the story of two West Texas farmers who build an adobe home that protects them from the elements and then must battle the lumber company that owns the land their home sits on. The novel is slated for publication in January 2013.
