Joakim Roams the Globe in Single 'Heartbeats/Another Light' – Premiere
Parisian club music performer, producer and Tigersushi label head Joakim follows up 2011's Nothing Gold with the mesmerizing combination of "Heartbeats/Another Light," a standalone single that signifies the artist's relocation from France to New York City. Matched with a video crafted from footage he shot on tour in Italy, China and the United States, Joakim tells Rolling Stone his goal was to give the clip "an urban, crepuscular feel . . . like a weird Michael Mann movie."
The end result is an atmospheric, dream-like presentation that matches the slow, winning electro-pop approach. As for the actual song "Heartbeats," Joakim asserts that it's a sad love song. "It's about the fear of losing something or someone, and loneliness in our current digital age," he explains. "Especially the way the Internet has redefined relationships and fantasies."
Although a full length companion album is still in production and isn't expected until winter 2014, Joakim believes that the complexities of love in the 21st century will continue to inform the project. Or as he puts it, "I want it to be kind of sexual too. Digital sex."This article originally appeared on Rolling Stone: Joakim Roams the Globe in Single 'Heartbeats/Another Light' – Premiere
