YouTube sensation Rebecca Black is ready to show a sexier side in her new single "Foolish," released Friday (April 21).
"I'm addicted to your everything," she croons in the dreamy pop track, a contrast to her 2016 breakup ballad "The Great Divide" -- and, of course, to breakout viral hit "Friday."
For now, just the audio has been released, but Black spoke to Billboard while filming the track's music video at the YouTube Space in Los Angeles. Based on the teaser, it's set in a colorful, neon-drenched dance club. The aesthetic is no surprise, since the directors of the video also worked on DNCE's "Cake by the Ocean" video.
The word "foolish" itself, fittingly, is exactly the feeling of first falling in love that Black aimed to emulate. "Maybe you do things you normally wouldn't because of this person," she tells Billboard. "I wanted it to capture what it's really like when you're 19. Love is real, and exciting, and weird and scary."
The social star propelled into the spotlight when she was just 13, with the 2011 viral hit "Friday," which garnered more than 100 million views -- and an array of negative media attention. "With 'Friday,' there was a lot of stuff I went through as a person and everything that came with it: the good, the bad, the ugly. It really affects someone. For anybody, the entertainment industry is a lot to a handle and, for a 13-year-old, I don't know how anyone can come out unscathed," she explained.
Since then, Black used the attention to her advantage and became a content creator on YouTube, with more than 1 million subscribers on her channel. Her videos touch everything from song covers to style guides and makeup tutorials.
Moving forward, especially now that she wants to focus on entering the mainstream music realm, Black says she wants her fans to know who she truly is.
"If there's anything I can try to do, it's to be honest. Whether I'm having a really good day or a terrible day, I want to put it out there," she said.
Check out "Foolish" below. Black says she hopes her full EP will be released this summer.
