Get ready to feel the soul. Pharrell released a new joint Wednesday (Nov. 16) called "Crave," one of eight contributions to the soundtrack for the upcoming film Hidden Figures.
The funky, soulful and jazzy track loads up on trumpet blasts and groovy guitar sounds, an uplifting note for the flick that follows three brilliant African-American women working at NASA: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson.
At Deadline's The Contenders event on Nov. 5, Williams spoke about Hidden Figures, saying, "I think those brilliant women were a victim of the era and circumstance. Up until recently, a woman's contribution to history has often been dismissed and discounted and oftentimes erased from public acknowledgment."
The inspirational movie also inspired "The Search for Hidden Figures" contest to empower, discover and celebrate emerging female visionaries within science, technology, engineering and math. Pharrell joins PepsiCo and Fox for the contest as a judge. Recipients will receive over $200,000 in scholarships to over 20 winners.
The soundtrack, due Dec. 9, features Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and more.
