Queen’s Brian May’s Asteroid Holiday Officially Recognized by the United Nations

Brian May, the co-founder and guitarist of Queen, has a PhD in astrophysics. He is one of the co-founders of Asteroid Day—an effort to raise awareness for how the planet should ready itself for the potential dangers of asteroid impact. Today, May and his fellow Asteroid Day co-founders announced that the holiday has been officially recognized by the United Nations. International Asteroid Day will fall on June 30. “It is the only natural disaster we know how to prevent if we work together towards a global solution,” the below statement reads. Freddie Mercury was recently honored with an asteroid of his own on what would have been the late singer’s 70th birthday.
