American kids who grow up obsessed with anime can often feel like outsiders, though never alone in the beautiful, emotional animated worlds of imagination. That feeling of creative loneliness is captured in the six-minute animated epic anime-fan-turned-producer Porter Robinson wrote for his Madeon collaboration "Shelter," of course, in true anime fashion, it's a lot more futuristic and gradiose.
The basic storyline follows 17-year-old Rin, a girl who exists entirely on her own, passing the time in jaw-dropping landscapes of her own creation. She uses an electronic pad and stylus to conjure breathtaking vistas, until one day, she quite accidentally discovers the truth of her hidden and forgotten past.
Animated by A-1 Pictures with support from American anime stream platform Crunchyroll, it's the perfect visual to accompany the single's sumptuous and uplifting melodies.
