Welcome to the new episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard's weekly audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year's biggest musical events. Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear Billboard co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and Billboard.com senior editor Katie Atkinson every Tuesday on the Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed on Billboard.com or downloaded in iTunes (click here to listen to the previous Tuesday's edition of the show on Billboard.com).
On the latest episode we're joined by Zara Larsson! The breakout Swedish pop star has already racked up three Billboard Hot 100 hits -- "Ain't My Fault," "Lush Life" and "Never Forget You" with MNEK, which peaked at No. 13 on the chart and was also No. 1 on Hot Dance & Electronic Songs for three weeks -- and she's just getting started. Her latest album, So Good, came out at the end of March and includes all three of those hits, plus an eclectic mix of genres that all wrap up into a shiny pop package.
"Pop is broad and it's mixed and it's versatile," Larsson says. "I do a little bit of this and that, but I definitely stay in the pop lane, just influenced by EDM or R&B or whatever it can be."
The latest single from So Good is the Clean Bandit collaboration "Symphony" -- which Larsson definitely plans to perform with the U.K. EDM collective as they all hit the road together this month through May 2 in Chicago. (Find all their tour dates on Larsson's Facebook page.) Take a listen to the full interview above to hear all her thoughts on streaming (she does hail from the land of Spotify, after all), what it was like to co-write a song with Ed Sheeran, how her "overnight success" was anything but, and much more.
Plus! We've got news about the just-released Billboard Music Awards nominations, Harry Styles' debut solo single "Sign of the Times," and Britney Spears announcing the final shows of her Las Vegas residency (say it ain't so!). Over on the charts, we've got updates about Kendrick Lamar's highest-charting song as a lead artist on the Hot 100, Sam Hunt's first top 10 Hot 100 hit, and how The Chainsmokers might fare with their first full-length album on next week's Billboard 200.
